The\nharder challenge is convincing hesitant buyers that many of their biggest\nfears no longer match reality.\n\nElectric vehicles may be regaining momentum in Canada.\n\nThe share of new vehicle shoppers in Canada who say they are \"very likely\" or\n\"somewhat likely\" to consider an EV has risen to 34%, up from 28% in 2025,\nmarking the first increase since tracking began in 2022 after years of flat or\ndeclining interest(1). The trend is also reflected in sales, with Canadians\nbuying 20.8 per cent more EVs in the first four months of 2026 than during the\nsame period last year(2), helped by higher gasoline prices, lower vehicle\nprices, and the return of federal rebates.\n\nYet for many Canadians, EVs remain a non-starter. The biggest concerns are\nlimited driving range (65%), charging availability (56%), and performance in\nextreme temperatures (54%)(3). Yet 96% of EV owners say they would choose an\nEV again(4), suggesting these anxieties are often more perceived than\npractical, and tend to disappear once people actually live with one. Here’s\nwhy.\n\n“I'll run out of battery mid-drive”\n\nBecause of our experience with smartphones, we all know the dreaded feeling of\nwatching the battery percentage tick down one point at a time when there's\nonly 10% left. But driving an EV is different. In reality, you're unlikely to\nfind yourself in that situation very often.\n\nFirst of all, today's EVs offer more than enough range for the vast majority\nof daily driving. In many markets, the average driver travels only around 40\nkm a day(5). For context, a mid-size SUV like the VinFast VF 8 offers up to\n412 km of range, enough for several days, or even more than a week for many\ncommuters, of trips to the office, school drop-offs, errands, dinner outings,\nand more.\n\nOf course, daily driving needs vary by region and use case. For example, the\naverage daily driving distance in the United States, Canada's next-door\nneighbor, is around 65 km(6). Taxi drivers typically drive between 150 and 250\nkm per day, which is still roughly half the range of the average battery\nelectric vehicle. Even in those cases, you should still have a reasonably safe\namount of charge left to make it back home.\n\n\"I won't find a charging station.\"\n\nYes, you probably will.\n\nFirst of all, most EV owners ideally charge in the comfort of their own homes,\nand many brands even offer to install a home charger in your garage. That's\nalmost the whole point, or at least one of the biggest benefits, of going\nelectric. You no longer have to interrupt your daily routine to stop for gas.\nJust plug the car in overnight, make sure it's charging, and wake up to a full\nbattery the next morning.\n\nIf you don't have a home charger, you still have access to public charging\nstations, which numbered at least 39,654 public charging ports at 14,743\nlocations nationwide as of March 25(7). That number represents a 17.4 per cent\nyear-over-year increase, meaning the network is continuing to expand.\n\nSome apps that come with the car can also help you locate a list of public\nchargers. For example, the VinFast Companion App gives users access to 95% of\npublic chargers across North America, allowing real-time access to charging\nlocations, payment systems, and vehicle management.\n\n\"EVs aren't ideal for Canada's climate\"\n\nIt's summer in Canada, but that doesn't stop people from worrying about winter\ndriving. Sure, EVs don't perform quite as well in cold weather, but they still\nperform remarkably well. Just look at EV adoption in Norway, one of the\nnorthernmost and coldest countries in the world. For four or five months each\nyear, temperatures remain below 0°C. Yet Norwegians have embraced electric\ncars, with EVs accounting for around 90% of new car sales (in 2023). If EV\nrange completely crumbled in the face of harsh winters, Norwegian buyers would\navoid them like the plague, wouldn't they?\n\nWhat's more, cold weather affects both EVs and gasoline vehicles. EVs\ngenerally lose more efficiency, up to 39 per cent in mixed city and highway\ndriving(8). But much of that loss comes from heating the cabin and still\nleaves enough range for the vast majority of everyday trips. Gas vehicles,\nmeanwhile, typically lose 10 to 20 per cent of fuel economy in city driving\nand 15 to 33 per cent on short trips when temperatures drop below minus 6°C,\naccording to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates.\n\nSo when you live with an EV, the first thing to remember is not to panic. Then\nthere are a few simple habits that make winter driving easier: pre-heating the\ncabin while the vehicle is still plugged in, keeping more range in reserve\n(just as gas drivers are advised to keep at least half a tank in winter),\nusing the companion app to pre-conditioning the battery before arriving at a\nfast charging station, and planning trips ahead using an EV charging network\napp.\n\nSome brands are also trying to make that transition smoother. VinFast, for\nexample, pairs their all electric vehicles with an industry-leading of 10-year\nor 200,000-kilometer vehicle warranty—along with a 10-year unlimited mileage\nwarranty for high-voltage batteries. VinFast also provides mobile maintenance\nand 24/7 roadside assistance, ensuring that help is always within reach.\n\n(1)\nhttps://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2026-canada-ev-consideration-study\n\n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jdpower.com%2Fbusiness%2Fpress-releases%2F2026-canada-ev-consideration-study&esheet=54591023&newsitemid=20260824218918&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jdpower.com%2Fbusiness%2Fpress-releases%2F2026-canada-ev-consideration-study&index=1&md5=ffae9af0e3b46e1abbe053b8dd5f3e84)\n\n(2) https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/ev-sales-increasing-canada-9.7241391 \n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbc.ca%2Fnews%2Fbusiness%2Fev-sales-increasing-canada-9.7241391&esheet=54591023&newsitemid=20260824218918&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbc.ca%2Fnews%2Fbusiness%2Fev-sales-increasing-canada-9.7241391&index=2&md5=969cbdcb54b2397a93e1554a264299e1)\n\n(3) Same as #1\n\n(4)\nhttps://electrek.co/2026/02/18/once-you-go-ev-you-dont-go-back-96-of-owners-agree/\n\n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Felectrek.co%2F2026%2F02%2F18%2Fonce-you-go-ev-you-dont-go-back-96-of-owners-agree%2F&esheet=54591023&newsitemid=20260824218918&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Felectrek.co%2F2026%2F02%2F18%2Fonce-you-go-ev-you-dont-go-back-96-of-owners-agree%2F&index=3&md5=92ea91e6ca2cff0a08b3cabdc35bce19)\n\n(5) https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/trends-in-electric-cars\n\n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iea.org%2Freports%2Fglobal-ev-outlook-2026%2Ftrends-in-electric-cars&esheet=54591023&newsitemid=20260824218918&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iea.org%2Freports%2Fglobal-ev-outlook-2026%2Ftrends-in-electric-cars&index=4&md5=60eb362a4f3c2506989132f8eb00851b)\n\n(6) Same as #5\n\n(7)\nhttps://electricautonomy.ca/data-trackers/public-charging-networks/2026-04-01/2026-ev-charging-network-report-steady-progress/\n\n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Felectricautonomy.ca%2Fdata-trackers%2Fpublic-charging-networks%2F2026-04-01%2F2026-ev-charging-network-report-steady-progress%2F&esheet=54591023&newsitemid=20260824218918&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Felectricautonomy.ca%2Fdata-trackers%2Fpublic-charging-networks%2F2026-04-01%2F2026-ev-charging-network-report-steady-progress%2F&index=5&md5=ef430cfd12dbe602e77cbc574846c6e4)\n\n(8)\nhttps://electricautonomy.ca/opinions/2024-02-13/cold-weather-ev-anxiety-canada/\n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Felectricautonomy.ca%2Fopinions%2F2024-02-13%2Fcold-weather-ev-anxiety-canada%2F&esheet=54591023&newsitemid=20260824218918&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Felectricautonomy.ca%2Fopinions%2F2024-02-13%2Fcold-weather-ev-anxiety-canada%2F&index=6&md5=15abda8ec048aac68d0e23216650c11a)\n\n\n\nView source version on businesswire.com:\nhttps://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260824218918/en/\n(https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260824218918/en/)\n\nJohn.lindo@vinfastauto.com (mailto:John.lindo@vinfastauto.com)\n\n\nCopyright Business Wire 2026","article_body_html":"","raw_payload":{"data":{"id":"nBw57hMfsa","title":"VinFast EVs Help Break Down Barriers to EV Adoption","author":"Business Wire","ticker":"VFS","created":"2026-08-24T10:00:00.074Z","tickers":["VFS"],"exchange":"NASDAQ","article_body":"VinFast EVs Help Break Down Barriers to EV Adoption\n\nToday's electric vehicles can comfortably handle most daily driving.
