As the first\nSectra customer in this domain, Source BioScience will now be able to support\nNHS organisations that need to send pathology cases to external specialists.\nThis lays the foundation for national telepathology networks in the UK, and\nfor improved access to specialist pathologists.\n\nThe service, Sectra Image Exchange Portal (Sectra IEP), is a cloud-based,\nvendor-neutral platform for exchanging and collaborating around medical\nimages. It is already used by more than 500 institutions, mainly within\nradiology. Recently, the service has undergone substantial modernisation which\nnow makes it possible for healthcare providers to benefit from new advanced\nworkflow functionality, for the service to be used by specialties other than\nradiology and for customers to move beyond image sharing to managing workflows\nbetween organisations.\n\n \n\n\"This milestone integration will give the NHS a seamless digital pathway to\nexternal specialists, with diagnoses delivered straight back into its own\nrecords - reducing turnaround times, easing consultant shortages and tackling\nreporting backlogs,\" says Nick Bills, Healthcare Director at Source\nBioScience.\n\n \n\nSource BioScience is a UK laboratory services provider specialising in\nhistopathology and genomics. Its pathology business supports more than 85 NHS\ntrusts alongside a network of private healthcare clinics, with histopathology\ndelivered from laboratories in Nottingham, Chichester and Cambridge.\n\n \n\nNHS pathology services are handling growing case volumes with a limited number\nof reporting consultants, and increasing subspecialisation means the\npathologist best suited to a case is often at another organisation. Sending\nwork to external capacity providers today typically relies on bespoke\narrangements between individual laboratories, including the transportation of\nphysical glass slides. This slows reporting times and creates administrative\noverhead for both the sending and receiving laboratories. With Sectra's\nservice, a case can be created as a job directly from a laboratory's worklist,\ndelegated to a receiving organisation, and the completed report returned to\nthe referring organisation's own records.\n\n \n\n\"IEP is the backbone of image sharing across the NHS. With our modernised\nplatform, we are introducing advanced workflows between healthcare\norganisations, and extending that trusted national network into pathology.\nConnecting trusts directly with external specialists like Source BioScience\nmeans cases and completed reports move seamlessly across organisational\nboundaries. It is a step towards an NHS where expertise is always within\nreach, and where work moves between organisations as easily as it moves within\nthem,\" says Jane Rendall, Managing Director for Sectra UK and Ireland.\n\n \n\nThe three-year contract was signed in the second quarter of Sectra's 2026/2027\nfiscal year. Up to 60,000 cases are expected during the first year, scaling up\nin subsequent years.\n\n \n\nSource BioScience Media Contact:\nKlaudyna Johnstone, Commercial Director,\nklaudyna.johnstone@sourcebioscience.com \n\nFor further information, please contact:\n Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, CEO and President Sectra  AB, 46 (0) 705 23 52 27\n Marie Ekström Trägårdh, Executive Vice President Sectra AB and President\nSectra Imaging IT Solutions, 46 (0)708 23 56 10\n\nAbout Sectra\nSectra contributes to a healthier and safer society by assisting health\nsystems throughout the world to enhance the efficiency of care, and\nauthorities and defense forces in Europe to protect society’s most sensitive\ninformation.
