(Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoshi Ichimura) has\nlaunched InnoCell(™) P-Type, a new adherent cell culture plate in its\nInnoCell(™) series of cell culture ware, as of October 1, 2026.\n\nInnoCell(™) P-Type combines Mitsui Chemicals’ proprietary highly\noxygen-permeable material technology with original surface treatment\ntechnology. By providing an environment that helps cells maintain functions\ncloser to those observed in vivo, the plate supports the development of\norganoids and other cell-tissue models, with the aim of improving the\nprecision of efficacy and toxicity evaluation in drug discovery research and\nenabling more effective screening.\n\nBackground\n\nIn recent years, drug discovery research has placed increasing importance on\ncomplex in vitro models that closely reflect human biological function and\ngenerate highly reproducible data. Three-dimensional cell models, including\norganoids, are increasingly being used to elucidate disease mechanisms,\nevaluate drug efficacy and toxicity, and advance patient-derived models for\ndrug discovery and personalized medicine.\n\nIn 3D culture, however, densely proliferating cells and thick tissue\nstructures can lead to insufficient oxygen supply, which may affect cell\nfunction, tissue uniformity, and the reproducibility of evaluation data. In\naddition, deployment in drug discovery screening requires environmental\nconditions that support robust culture, observation, image acquisition, and\ndrug screening.\n\nInnoCell(™) P-Type supports the construction of high-performance 3D cell\nmodels and their application in drug discovery evaluation by combining highly\noxygen-permeable material, surface treatment technology designed to enhance\ncell adhesion, low autofluorescence for improved image acquisition, and low\ndrug adsorption to reduce the impact on assay compounds.\n\nConfirmed uniform tissue formation with human iPS cell-derived cardiac\norganoids\n\nHidetoshi Masumoto, MD, PhD, at Kansai Medical University used InnoCell(™)\nP-Type plates to culture human iPS cell-derived cardiac organoids. Compared\nwith conventional polystyrene plates, InnoCell(™) P-Type enabled the\nformation of tissues with more uniform overall thickness and increased tissue\nthickness. The cardiomyocyte layer, which was positive for the cardiac marker\ntroponin T, also showed increased thickness and density in the tissue profile.\nThese results indicate that enhancing oxygen supply to cultured tissues could\nprovide an important option for constructing 3D cardiac tissue models.\n\n[Comment from Hidetoshi Masumoto, MD, PhD, Kansai Medical University]\n\nWhen we used InnoCell(™) P-Type plates to culture human iPS cell-derived\ncardiac organoids, the overall tissue thickness was more uniform and the\ncardiomyocyte layer was thicker than with the polystyrene plates we had\npreviously used. We consider culture vessels that can provide an oxygen supply\nenvironment suited to these tissues to be one of the most promising options\nfor studying culture conditions for three-dimensional cardiac tissues.\n\nHigh-throughput screening of intestinal organoid-derived epithelial cells\n\nJonny Sexton, PhD, of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the\nUniversity of Michigan Medical School conducted culture and barrier function\nevaluation of human intestinal organoid monolayers using InnoCell(™) P-Type\nplates. The evaluation suggested that, compared with cell culture inserts,\nwhich( )are widely used( )in conventional assays,( )epithelial barrier\nfunction could be evaluated with high sensitivity and low variability. In\nparticular, better epithelial barrier formation and response to inflammatory\nstimulation were observed on InnoCell(™) P-Type plates compared cell culture\ninserts. In addition, InnoCell(™) P-Type’s low autofluorescence is\nexpected to support high-content imaging and high-throughput screening assays\nevaluating effects on intestinal barrier function.\n\n[Comment from Jonny Sexton, PhD, University of Michigan]\n\nIn biomedical research, generating highly reproducible data from\nphysiologically relevant models is essential. InnoCell™ P-type combines\nsuperior imaging capabilities with enhanced oxygen and gas permeability,\ndelivering accelerated organoid maturation and improved functional maturity,\nenabling clearer visualization and more physiologically representative 3D\nmodels. Together, these advantages can strengthen disease modelling and\naccelerate drug discovery and regenerative medicine research.\n\nComment from Toshihiko Omote, Member of the Board, Managing Executive Officer,\nChief Technology Officer (CTO) of Mitsui Chemicals\n\nIn recent years, drug discovery research has seen rapid growth in the use of\n3D cell models, such as organoids and microphysiological systems, that more\nfaithfully reproduce biological functions. InnoCell™ P-Type has been\ndeveloped based on Mitsui Chemicals’ long-cultivated core technologies, and\nis expected to contribute to advances in the culture environments that\nunderpin these cutting-edge studies.\n\nWe position InnoCell™ not simply as a culture plate, but as research\ninfrastructure that supports improved productivity and predictability in drug\ndiscovery research. Going forward, we will continue to create new values in\nthe life sciences field by leveraging our core technologies.\n\nFor more information on InnoCell™ insights, product lineup and use cases,\nplease visit the website below.\n\nhttps://jp.mitsuichemicals.com/en/special/innocell/index.htm \n(https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fjp.mitsuichemicals.com%2Fen%2Fspecial%2Finnocell%2Findex.htm&esheet=54613946&newsitemid=20261005194080&lan=en-US&anchor=https%3A%2F%2Fjp.mitsuichemicals.com%2Fen%2Fspecial%2Finnocell%2Findex.htm&index=1&md5=3c3bc9776ea71eae121ab439a6390b13)\n\nIn the Chinese market, InnoCell™ is offered under the brand\nname 亿能适迩(™).\n\n\n\nView source version on businesswire.com:\nhttps://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261005194080/en/\n(https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261005194080/en/)\n\nContact information for product purchase and service inquiries\n\nCell Culture Solution Department, New Business Incubation Center, Mitsui\nChemicals, Inc.\n\nEmail: InnoCell@mitsuichemicals.com (mailto:InnoCell@mitsuichemicals.com)\n\n\nCopyright Business Wire 2026","article_body_html":"","raw_payload":{"data":{"id":"nBw1HYtZxa-20261005","title":"Mitsui Chemicals Launches InnoCell™ P-Type High Oxygen-Permeable Culture Plates to Accelerate Organoid-Based Drug Discovery","author":"Business Wire","ticker":"4183","created":"2026-10-05T16:00:00.223Z","tickers":["4183"],"exchange":"TSE Tokyo","article_body":"Mitsui Chemicals Launches InnoCell(™) P-Type High Oxygen-Permeable Culture\nPlates to Accelerate Organoid-Based Drug Discovery\n\nSupporting high-performance 3D model construction and high-precision,\nhigh-throughput efficacy evaluation\n\nMitsui Chemicals, Inc.
